To put it philosophically, ‘expensive’ is a relative term. When it comes to a trade off between beauty and health and the price of the product, no price is too high. Having said that, since not all of us own large acres of fields which produce organic ingredients, Sassafras has tied up with suppliers who are conscious of not just the quality of their brands, but also that they reach as many people with what’s good for body, mind, and soul. So here in Sassafras, organic equals affordable.

Organic and natural beauty products are not and cannot be interchanged. Here’s a quick look up guide for the differences:

OrganicNatural

Highly regulated in the United States. Legally means that the brand is certified by the USDA. Organic products usually fall under one of these four categories:

  • - 100% Organic
  • - Organic
  • - Made with Organic ingredients
  • - Organic Ingredients

Not a legal term, since this is an unregulated segment. Can carry the seal of NPA (Natural Products Association, which has certified nearly 800 products in the US)

No pesticides. No fertilizers. No GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms)

Under the NPA seal, Natural products must contain 95% ingredients made from petroleum-free, renewable flora, fauna, and mineral resources.

95% of the ingredients are of natural origin,

Approved synthetic ingredients in the product must be people-safe and earth-friendly. Products must come in environmentally conscious packaging, and never be tested on animals.

In the United States, labeling and certifying of personal care products, as with Food and Drugs is mandatory before the product is sent out in the market. Here are some of the authorized certification programs:

  • ANSI 305 (American National Standards Institute)
  • NOP (National Organic Program)
  • OASIS (Organic and Sustainable Industry Standards)
  • PETA –not tested on animals
  • Leaping Bunny Program – Certified Cruelty Free
  • Certified Vegan – not tested on or use animal products
  • California Certified Organic Farmers

Bad is bad gets. Each to her/his own. You can use a highly recommended organic or natural products and land up with hives; while products with chemicals formulated in labs have turned up good results.

Given the contaminants and pollutants in the air today, the tendency to lean towards natural and organic products has been on the rise the last couple of decades. The chemicals in the products we use have come to cause more harm than good – and that’s not just on our person – we’re talking our environment, the air we breathe and the water in the ocean too. Take a look at the some of the dire consequences of using chemically laden products:

ChemicalUsed inPossible side Effects

And that’s just the tip of the ice berg. We’d need an entire website to talk about the ill effects of chemicals on the human body. But we’re here to tell you about the beautiful things that our products can do to your skin. Read on.

Suffice to say that their products come from sources, which are clean, organic or natural, pure and certified. The rest as they say, are trade secrets.

Not true.

There are certain man-made chemicals that are necessary to preserve its freshness and maintain a certain amount of shelf-life. These chemicals are essentially harmless and are approved by the USDA for use in skin and beauty care products to be harmless to people and environment.

That depends on the product and the ingredients.

Nope. Just because a product is made from 100% organic or naturally grown ingredients, it doesn’t mean that it will contain the secret of everlasting youth or free you from the world’s ills. Every product has its own unique formulation, just as every skin has its own unique composition. Choose your products based on your research and your skin type. Sassafras, can however attest to the quality of every ingredient that goes into our suppliers’ products as pure and safe.

Happy to give you a resounding “No” to that! Our products are not tested on animals, nor do they use any animal products.

IF you have not opened the package, looked into it or breathed into it, we’re happy to check back with our suppliers for a return or exchange. As with any personal care product, just as you would not like using something opened by someone else, our other customers share the sentiment too. If it is unopened and you still have the purchase receipt, call/ mail us, we will do our best to fix the issue.
